I’m against capital punishment except for politicians, law enforcement, and wealthy elites, specifically who used their power and authority to subvert attempts to bring them to justice. A person like that is unlikely to be reformed and even less likely to turn around and become a net benefit for humanity.

This is generally were my thinking is going. I’ve been firmly against the death penalty my whole life, but I’d make an exception for people who abuse authority in positions of great power. I think it would have to be a high standard of evidence or politicians would just sue each other into the gallows.
You’re probably right, but I’d hope at least some powerful people would think twice if the risks were high. I agree though the victims matter more. Your focus is in the right place.
You know, he was carrying all that drug on himself before planting it, so he had a lot of drugs. Isn’t that a long prison time type of offense in the states?
A just system would hand the cop all of the sentences passed on the innocent people, and make him serve them consecutively.

It wouldn’t make this one tiny jot better for those who suffered. The perpetrator is irrelevant. Lock em up and forget em.
The focus should be on making things right for the victims. A million dollars per year of imprisonment for starters.
