Bummer about the ones you had to give away but you’ve got a nice collection going there! The one from your first photo with the dark leaves is a rubber plant for sure. That was the first plant I ever owned and it didn’t last long.
Unfortunately, most of the outdoor plants for you are stuck as houseplants for me. Maybe that’s why I live in Australia in so many of my dreams…
I couldn’t let it go and wound up IDing the one with the gourd-shaped leaves as a Plumeria pudica!
I don’t have many fun outdoor plants to offer as I’m planning on moving next summer but here’s a Salvia splendens that appeared in the pot of a dead rosemary bush I’ve been too lazy to chuck. The bush wouldn’t have survived the winter so I brought it inside and it didn’t like that.
Chicago is actually exactly where I am, haha. Well, the suburbs. I just moved from Chicago proper last year but it was kind of in a rush. I wanted a small house but all I could find in my budget was a big house that needed work. And I don’t have the energy or motivation to do it all. Family will keep me local, I just want a more manageable house.
But in the US, there’s a capital gains tax when you sell your home unless it’s your primary residence for 2+ years and the housing market is skyrocketing so I’m stuck for another year.
What a coincidence. Chicago is a really nice place despite what Trump has to say about it. I don’t even mind the weather, I’m just jealous that people can have year-round gardens. We have a lot of nice perennial plants but it’s nowhere near the variety you can get when it’s warm all year
Regarding the cold up there, I remember a photo in a newspaper decades ago of tons of icicles hanging off a building after the fire brigade had hosed it all down after a fire.
Another coincidence is that I sent my plant photos to my sister in Northern England and she said exactly the same as you about indoor plants.
And really, who listens to that orange scrotum anyway ? I don’t follow much politics but for some reason since 2016 I have followed yours. I have never hated a person more than my hatred for him. Here’s hoping they all get what they deserve but I won’t hold my breath.
Maybe you should get a heated greenhouse. Oh and your house sounds nice, however as you said a lot of work. Cheers.
Yep sounds about right. It’s not quite Canada cold but it’s definitely chilly. Even without the fire department, you’re knocking icicles down all winter.
Here’s another one for the pile: I just repotted my English Ivy, a plant I love that is considered a weed by her.

Wow that plant has a lovely flower. Thanks for the info. And I hadn’t realised that you were somewhere else. Where are you.
You should come and live here by the way. I’m from North West England originally.
I’m in the north US (another reason to move lol)

That looks really amazing. Brrrrrr North America. We have a Chicago native at work. I’ve been up the twin trade towers twice.
Where are you moving to ?

I saw this on my way in this morning.
