I think the modern writers have forgotten that some of those gimmick episodes of TOS happened because they had a shoestring budget and had to reuse whatever cowboy or city set was available.

Seems all of season 4 has been gimmick episodes, some of them are funny as hell though.
They’re def not all bad. “Like Chronitons Through the Hourglass” and “Off-Hour” were great. Though I did just flat out skip “Once La’An a Time.”
Nyota being a bad ass is the only reason to watch it tbh, its a gimmick episode and she turns into a giant dragon. Other than that it was mid but the actors had fun it seemed!
This is what I actually love about both SNW and (for at least one episode) Starfleet Academy: Star Trek is theater nerd shit. So many of the Trek actors have serious theater backgrounds and so SNW seems to really lean into that heritage and let these thesbians have a good time in the galaxy!
