NORML's Paul Armentano on the two-front war against cannabis consumers: Republican lawmakers overturning or attacking voter-approved legalization in South Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Texas and Idaho, while Democratic lawmakers in Michigan, Maryland and Minnesota hike taxes high enough to push consumers back into the illicit market.
Our schools and government told us that cannabis is harmful and dangerous. Too dangerous to give to humans to test potential medical benefits. They lied. Then you try cannabis and maybe you don’t like it or maybe you do, but either way, you are fine when it wears off. Then you wonder, what else did they lie about? It makes sense to think that hard drugs might be similarly harmless. You are probably willing to try harder drugs because you have been misinformed.
In my experience drug dealers* are some of the best sources for information on drug safety. After all, they don’t need bodies traceable to them. I remember once back in college I was buying weed with an exchange student who had just started smoking, and he was like “hey can you get me some meth too?” And the guy selling it to us was like “no, don’t do meth, that shit will actually fry your brain”.
*Assuming some kind of relationship, not like, street dealers in the projects.
