    Do these “charity donations” from conservatives generally mean church donations? I don’t really count that as “charity” as its more akin to investing in your specific community

      The article (posted in a comment) does not seem to reference religious donations. I do agree that is closer to investing in your local community than donating to a specific cause (though, it could also be both.)

      It does talk about donating to local schools, which I think matches your point about how these donations are about investing in the local community. Conservatives in general seem to be more likely to donate to local causes as opposed to far-off cuases - the article calls this behavior "particularist.’

      DonorsChoose, a non-profit, allows people to donate online to classroom-funding requests from public-school teachers. It provided data on 4m donations, including the locations of donors and recipients.

      This is the data they used. Does the US have church-run public schools?

        My understanding is that no, we are not supposed to have church-run public schools.

        However, some states such as Oklahoma divert public funds to church-run charter schools… I believe this one is at the center of a Supreme Court case.

        So, the real answer (as unfortunate as it is) is basically “yes” depending on the state in question.
