    Well, in Disney Canon

During the Galactic Civil War, Luke Skywalker sought to construct a new weapon after he lost his first lightsaber in a duel on Bespin against Darth Vader, his father. For a time, he used a yellow lightsaber he found in a High Republic Jedi outpost. However, when his Yellow lightsaber was damaged by Killdroids, Luke set off to find a new Kyber Crystal. Arriving on the planet Christophsis, he encountered a woman named Gretta, who took him to Dr. Cuata. While Cuata worked on Skywalker’s lightsaber, he gave Luke a blank crystal, which after receiving a vision of Yoda, turned green.

So no, he never did the whole trial thing. ALSO apparently he had a yellow lightsaber for short time in new canon?

Oh I read the article and did not understand the context that the crystal being discussed was the one he ends up using. Thanks!

All good, I don’t read the comics so I didn’t know this either.

They had to inject some High Republic reference in there lol

What’s wrong with high republic? I’ve enjoyed nearly every novel that has come out so far

Oh nothing at all, it’ll just always be weird having Disney canon inserted into legacy character’s stories

Yes, this all happens in the Star Wars (2020) comic series. Specifically, in the most recent issues over the last few months. We expect to see him build his green lightsaber in the coming issues.
