One of the interaction menu options (where “Cross-post / Send Message / Report Post / Block user / Block Community” live)
OR (preferably)
perhaps even one of the external buttons (next to Comment / Save / Original Post -OR- next to Upvote / Downvote)
should be the ability to either hide or collapse a given post so the things you’ve already seen take up less screen space
(but shouldn’t be permanently lost to you so you can go back to something if you decide you want to look at it again)

Also, apologies if this is already suggested, I tried to search, and either it isn’t there or the search function isn’t very good.

Sure; Right now, as I scroll down the main feed of all federated posts sorted by ‘hot’, I’m still running into dozens of posts I’ve already interacted with last night and they’re taking up valuable screen space. If I could just put them aside or collapse them, it decreases the risk of missing content that’s actually novel in the form of “missing trees because the forest got in the way”.

Sort of like… imagine if you had an email client where you couldn’t mark anything as ‘read’ or archive anything. It becomes a mixed and disorganized mess where it’s hard to spot stuff that you haven’t already seen before.

it’d be nice to kinda … ‘dismiss’ stuff like that.

I feel like this should be a Lemmy feature request, and not something that every Lemmy client should be implementing individually.

Huh. I didn’t even realize it wasn’t a lemmy feature because it was present on several other clients (I just like alexandrite more than the others so far with this one exception)

There is a lemmy setting to hide read posts fwiw, but it’s probably not exactly what you’re looking for. I’ve been thinking of making a toggle for it more accessible from the feed, but a lemmy feature to hide individual posts like you could on reddit would be nicest.
