We have the same issue in the US, probably worse, as state controlled actors are clearly out publicly in the Republican party. That said, Russia is not just bot server farms, they are using wealth and influence: 200 residences in just Westminster, 2,000 in London…

I’d personally still classify the expats/dual residents as ‘indirect’, and IMHO that doesn’t lessen its impact. Direct is from the Nation State itself (Putin, Ben, etc) Indirect is basically everything else.
The US has a lot of Chinese investment in real estate for example; that exerts pressure, but not in the same way a mass disinformation campaign does.
Meanwhile the state is arresting people protesting for peace and to stop genocide by Israel. Wonder if they misalignment is related?
