What’s the best way to catch up on the story of WoW? In-game, preferably. I finished up in Zandalar and now I’m in Nazjatar and… Who the hell is MOTHER? Why is there a big-ass sword jammed into Silithus? I feel like the 0-to-hero path thru Zandalar skipped… A lot of steps. So what’s the best way for me to play catch-up?

EDIT: For reference, before this year the last time I seriously played WoW was WotLK.

If you stopped in WotLK I want to say start at Cataclysm and play through Legion, but that is a serious time investment. I think you’d be OK just playing through Legion, though there are some things it draws from prior expansions as well. Specifically the return of Gul’dan in WoD.

I’m not afraid of the time investment, fortunately. I’m just looking for the best way to get up to speed. If the answer is “play the game” so be it! Lol. I’m guessing the best way to experience those stories is through Chromie time? How does that work, anyway?

If you’ve hit level 60 I don’t believe you can use Chromie time. Since you mentioned you’ve played through BfA I’m going to assume you’re in your 50s, so I would just say use Wowhead to locate the intro quests for Cataclysm and start there. I hope that’s not too much of a cap-out answer.

At lvl 61 you can’t use Chromie anymore because Chromie is only for leveling, if you want to catch-up on story you have 2 options: either start a new char and use Chromie to play the xpac you want, or play the xpac on your main.

If you’re only interested in seeing the story, using your main is much much faster because you’ll basically one-shot everything and that allows you to also solo dungeons/normal raids where part of the story is.

For how to do that, you just reminded me I wrote a guide a while ago for r/wow, going to get it and post it in this sub too.
