Hi, the other day our 2010 M1 xDrive diesel made a loud pop - sounded like a backfire - and the “reduced engine capacity” warning came up on the console. Car still drives, but it has way less power.
Someone suggested it could be the intercooler connection to the turbo. Has anyone else had this happen, and how expensive is it to replace?
Thanks - you were absolutely correct.
We gave up and just took it to the mechanic who charged us $750 for a replacement.
However, when he showed us the old one, it was actually in decent shape but he said that the metal clamp ring for the hose had been replaced by an improvised one made of wire! (The other side had the “standard” one which was purpose built).
So double annoyed that it could have probably just been a replacement clip instead of a whole new part, but also… What is the point of paying for yearly service checks if nobody has spotted this dodgy job before?
Oof. Sorry that happened. I’ll continue do my own work whenever possible for reasons such as this.
Glad you got it sorted, at least!
What’s the last seven of your VIN? That seems like a very high price for a pressure hose. I’d be interested in getting the BMW part number and seeing what Fcp sells it for…
