Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed’s former opponent in the U.S. Senate primary, Haley Stevens, stunned party officials Sunday by endorsing Republican Mike Rogers after Democratic tensions boiled over days before the election that could determine the balance of power on Capitol Hill.

Stevens endorsed Rogers after attending a Detroit church service with him. The remarkable show of support for Donald Trump’s backed candidate in the tightly contested race comes after she was uninvited to a joint event the same day with El-Sayed, who defeated the congresswoman by a slim margin in the August primary.

“Our Democratic nominee for Senate said I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away,” Stevens said video announcing the endorsement. “And he’s right. And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today.”

I don’t live in Michigan, but I donate $10-15 a month to the competitive Democrats running for Senate. I usually hate those fundraising emails and prefer to donate on my own.

But I got one from El-Sayed after this bullshit and sent him $50. Fuck Stevens. Apparently helping Israel bomb children is more important than keeping Donald Trump from destroying our democracy. And she has the gall to say after her endorsement, “I’m still a proud Democrat.” Go fuck yourself.

It’s just the one vote…. Uwu

She’s such a dumb bitch. She never stood a chance of gaining my vote. I just knew she wasn’t to be trusted. The few debates they had, I couldn’t stand her! The way she puts on the accent, like, no one talks like that around here anymore…

Abdul, now Abdul has been firm on his message. Hasn’t strayed, not once. I know where he stands. Haley, she’s all over the god damn place. I handed in my ballot last weekend. El-Sayed’s campaign is the first time I’ve ever donated to one and I turned 40 back in March. Felt good. Wish I could give more!

Nice work! My only competitive election this year is in the House (Rob Bresnahan is going down). But thanks for voting for sanity!

People like her are everywhere unfortunately. They’re drawn to the attention, the power, the influence. It’s so clear this wasn’t a principled position for her given three months ago…

For her, it’s all personal. She apparently thinks she has the authority to make demands of El-Sayed because she barely lost to him in the primary. If she wants to not go out and campaign with him, fine. But this is pretty clearly a “I told him to do something, he didn’t do it, so I’m going to spit in his face” type situation.

Maybe she truly doesn’t realize how bad she fucked up, but her whole career in politics is done, all because the actual nominee didn’t acquiesce to the loser’s demands and she decided to make a big show of it and cheer for the opposing team she previously decried as extreme.

Democrats see her as a traitor, Republicans see her as useful for 2 days and then they’ll discard her. She’s just done.

The alternative to helping sensible people get elected by contributing to their campaigns is to have corporations and foreign actors pay for them instead.

Well we see where that goes.

Citizens United was a crippling strike that needs to be undone if there’s any hope for the future
