This isn’t even necessarily tech. A bunch of models do assume we’re going to figure out how to physically pull GHGs out of the air (a new favorite argument from those with ties to oil - “don’t worry bro, we’ll capture it later”) with new tech but a bunch of these offsets are just trees.

Most projects look at historical deforestation within a region to forecast a baseline deforestation rate, or the amount of deforestation that would have happened without the project’s intervention, West said. The problem is, it’s all based on hypotheticals.
