The astronomical reckoning of “end of summer” happens mid-September, but the agricultural reckoning just has it at the end of August. They are both arbitrary, but for my money summer ends with August because the hot ends with August.
Minesota here, but you do have to contend with a week or so of -40F in the winter pretty regularly. Breathing hurts and your skin turns to the dessert, but man, those fall nights…
