The judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s election interference case in federal court is expected Monday to set a trial date that could have a crucial impact on the 2024 race for the White House.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan will hear arguments from Trump’s lawyers and federal prosecutors on whether the historic trial should begin before or after next year’s presidential election.

Special counsel Jack Smith has proposed that the trial start in January, with jury selection beginning in December, while Trump’s team says the trial should be pushed back until April 2026.

2026? Are they fucking insane. Lets say for hot minute that did that and he wins (sick to even think about) what he wants the trail to start 2 years after he is in office?

Trail that mother fucker NOW lock him up and throw away the goddamm key.

This time in America will look very bad to future generations.

Exactly. He wants immunity from prosecution because that’s what the FBI and/or DOJ decided the sitting president has for stone stupid reason. He knows he’s fucked so he’s trying to use the office to shield himself or probably pardon himself from the federal counts.

And probably intends to pardon himself (which will set off another round of chaos as it is debated and adjudicated whether or not that is legal)

The argument they are using is that since the crime took place 2.5 years ago, the DoJ had all that time to prepare their case, while Trump was somehow completely blindsided by this whole thing and didn’t even begin to make preparations for a defense until he was indicted, so they are going to need 2.5 years to prepare the defense.

That is literally the stupid argument they are making. Agreeing to this demand would turn our entire criminal justice system on its head.

He wants it in 2026 because historically if he wins president and the house and/or senate go to the Dems they will likely flip during the mid terms. His best chance of tossing it all is having all the control.

Fortunately, Chutkan is having none of it. This is an Obama appointed judge that resides in reality. She sees the nonsense for exactly what it is and has been making rulings accordingly.

Hope his allies are aware that if he pardons himself and doesn’t succeed at taking full control of power, he can no longer plead the 5th if questioned about them, so the more dirt he has on them, the less they want him to win the election of that’s his plan.

Its gonna be interesting to see how it plays out if he tries it. Strictly speaking he shouldnt be able to pardon anyone of state level charges, but he’ll lie about what the law is and his fans will support him in his evil knowing that he’ll support them in their evil
