I’m not advocating church mission trip in any way, almost all of them are bullshit vacations for religious folks to feel good about themselves for ‘helping’ poor people for a week and then shipping off. Yet I’m reminded of when I was a kid and the church I grew up in did one to rural Kentucky and my brothers friends were all going so he and my dad went. My dad, who worked a tough job as a lineman and often was sent out to disasters like hurricanes to rebuild the infrastructure most notably Hurrican Andrew, told me when they got back that it was like a third world country. This was in the early 00s
