            Bugs are technically crustaceans

            I’m not sure why that would be.

            Generally bugs is a colloquial name and has no specific meaning in taxonomy.

            Unless you mean “true bugs” from the order Hemiptera, which are definitely insects.

                mh … from my understanding “crustacean” are in the phylum “Crustacea”, which doesn’t include hexapods. You’re thinking of the clade “Pancrustacea”.

                    Each node on a phylogenetic tree is a taxonomic unit. You can’t really talk about one without the other.
