Hi all,

The subreddit is still down (more on that soon) as part of the widespread protests against Reddit’s changes. While the official pathofexile forums and the /r/pathofexile discord are still available for questions, guides and community chat, the most common modmail we’ve gotten during this week has been people asking to see specific threads on the subreddit which contain useful game information. We’ve been working on a workaround for the community.

How to use it

Here’s an example. You’re on Google searching for “poe how to sustain maps”, the first result will be this link, which shows the subreddit private page https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/x4ot0f/how_the_heck_are_people_managing_to_sustain_maps/

Now, you can take any link like that, and add poe before reddit.com, and see the submission and comments, for example: https://www.poereddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/x4ot0f/how_the_heck_are_people_managing_to_sustain_maps/

Caveats:

  • The amount of comments/submissions in the PoE sub is huge, so we are only able to store text. Links to videos and images work, but a native reddit video for example would not.
  • Data is only present up through March 31st, 2023. Data beyond that is significantly harder to bulk submit, but we’re working on it.
  • If a user has opted out of data collection on reddit via pushshift, their comments/submissions are not present. All user information was stripped out of this mirror though
  • This index includes deleted posts, so if you’re browsing the index page of the site, you’ll see posts that say deleted. That’s because they are.
  • Comments are unsorted, you may need to scroll down on the page to view comments with interesting replies
How is this accomplished:

We downloaded all the comments and the submissions from Pushshift, an open copy of reddit’s content, and put them into a database using a tool called Redarc

TLDR: When you find a reddit.com/r/pathofexile/foo link, change it to poereddit.com/r/pathofexile/foo to see the posts and comments

Hopefully this is useful to people, we’ve been sending it as a reply to modmails asking to see subreddit threads

Wishing ya’ll a good weekend, Multi

If r/pathofexile is coming back then what’s the eventual fate of this instance?

Are we giving up on Kbin/Lemmy?

Three will be more updates on that with the main post. That said, I will maintain this Lemmy alternative and the site described in this post for as long as I am able.

My personal opinion is that this is the beginning of the end for reddit, and the PoE community should diversify from being so reliant on a single, externally controlled site. Federated, open source, community hosted content seems like the future if you don’t want your hosting platform to use profit as a reason to make it worse. The PoE Wiki made this transition, and I believe the subreddit can too.

I personally hope the subreddit comes back online as soon as possible, having it go dark a short time after the Aggorat trailer dropped felt like shit, dissecting tidbits is the best part of PoE on reddit and i am hopelessly blue-balled in that regard.

That being said, while the reddit PoE community has it’s faults, you mods have honestly been exceptional, so props to you guys, and Reddit’s recent narrative trying to pit users against mods is pretty infuriating when applying it to subreddits like this.

I do hope you maintain this lemmy community, though it will take time for user influx. Like many in the community (since we tend to skew older) I’ve seen social media rise and platforms come and go, and the only things that lead to migration is either a killer new feature (nothing in sight to kill reddit) or a platform going to shit. And I kind of wish you guys would actually let reddit eat itself alive, it will either course-correct or collapse and we can finally move on. We have a saying in my country something to the tune of “if you don’t let someone die, they won’t let you live” and it really applies here, let Reddit face the consequences of it’s actions.
