When I subscribe in a community in another instance it always says "pending " in yellow. I can comment but I am not officially subscribed to the community. E.g. subscribing to “[email protected]”
Maybe I just need to wait.

Yeah it does that sometimes, usually with lemmy.ml
If it doesn’t get subscribed try clicking on pending and then subscribe again.
The pending still remains. However, it is currently listed on my subscriptions. I think that means I am subscribed.
