Since a bunch of new users are arriving from Reddit (including me) maybe it would make sense to port the /r/anime bot that creates episode discussions to Lemmy so there’s regular content here?

The bot is open source: https://github.com/r-anime/holo

Looking at the source it should not be so difficult to add an option to post to Lemmy as well.

Thoughts?

I was going to just manually make a post for seasonal episodes as I watch them, but if you want to automate it, why not?

Just maybe initially limit it to the more popular shows, otherwise I also think it might overwhelm this still small community.

The trick would be to define the difference between popular/small. Especially early each season when everything is fair game.

For the still running season, why not just take the top 10 from the /r/anime ranking. Although I agree it’s hard to draw a hard limit, you need to do it somewhere. And if someone misses their favorite show, they can still post a thread themselves.

I’d wager that next month this community will not be that small anymore, then it could be ramped up.

To hasten that process, a subtle information drive on r/anime and other anime-related subs about Lemmy could be done. The problem is with the login process and the slight learning curve that Lemmy comes with. Hope the devs solve it sooner and streamline it better.

I tried mentioning and linking this community on /r/anime and got my comments deleted because advertising other communities is not allowed there. But after messaging the mods about it, they seem to be aware of the need for an alternative that isn’t Discord and seem to be cooking something up as a contingency for an /r/anime exodus.

Just mentioning Lemmy in general seems to be fine though and has been done several times in the blackout thread.
