I am theoretically switching over from Reddit to Lemmy. Finding myself spending more time on Lemmy than on Reddit. Maybe it’s because I am limited to using the desktop and can’t aimlessly browse Reddit on my iPhone. Of late, the only subreddits I cared for were on sports and their matchday threads and r/watches. I found myself aimlessly browsing through r/AskReddit and asking and answering pointless questions.

Can I ask what’s the value in asking for your data? And how do you go about doing it?

I plan on going back and spoiling my comments but I am petty and would also love to do anything I can to make them pay someone to work more. (I do this every time I get mad about a stupid fee too - I call and make someone getting paid $10/hr explain why that fee exists… Until their time has paid the fee. Politely of course! Not to harass the employees but to make the company spend more money collecting the fee than the fee was worth.)

I provide a lot of advice on Reddit for people and I want to preserve some of those answers if people ask those questions here. They will supposedly give me a CSV file that I can download. There are some other unofficial options but it seems like they involve downloading an SQLite database.

As much as I am fine with Reddit crashing and burning, I know it’s an incredible resource for advice and single handedly stops people from doing regrettable things every day. It will be a while before we have the same thing here.

As a gamer, there’s a lot of good tips sitting on there. I was just looking up info for the Final Fantasy V mode FF5FJF. Most of the results gave Reddit, and the FF5FJF sub is locked. It was one of those small impactful moments.
