I haven’t touched Rhino outside of Index in ages and even there, he was replaced by Revenant. I don’t even know why I keep him around but since I do, I decided I want to give him a proper build.

Mind you, I have a SP viable build for everything I own…except Rhino Prime.

I figured he’s a tank and doesn’t need much, like Nezha for example, but boy was I wrong. Even some mid level Steel Path enemies totally wiped the floor with him. I’m actually convinced there’s a bug at play here because the second Iron Skin goes down, I immediately die. You’d expect shield gating to kick in first but it feels like it really doesn’t.

Anyway, Iron Skin usually holds only a few seconds even though I have high Armor and Strength and use it when under enemy fire, so I’m probably doing something wrong. Naturally, I looked for guides online but most of them are ridiculous, like:

Ain’t nobody got time for that!

Tell me, how can I make Rhino survive Steel Path in a non-ridiculous way, please.

He’s been hella power-crept out, no? Nezha has just been better Rhino since his rework as far as I know. Iron Skin is probably better/more comfortable as a panic rather than a preventative at this point (obviously without the ridiculous nonsense, as you mentioned). Roar is strong as hell, doesnt need much strength, so probably adaptation, grace/guardian, pop skin when hit hard or acolyte spawn? Sorry I don’t have great suggestions. He has little actual scaling, and his energy pool leaves much to be desired :/

      Your suggestion is actually great.

It’s hard to but I have this mental image of Rhino as the unmovable badass that makes Revenant look bad. Probably implanted there since my newbie days. So, seeing him get his ass kicked is hard to watch.

I’ll try to make a standard high EHP build and use Iron Skin as a situational survivability buffer instead of using it as a damage prevention.

Hahahaha, glad to help! I switched mine around a couple months ago and have been enjoying him again. I run two blue shards for +energy-max, full umbral, hunter adrenaline, and a tiny bit more duration than primed continuity. I play him like a drain-tank and pop roar/iron on acolytes, it’s a blast!
