Regardless of what happens in the coming days, weeks, months the community needs input from everyone. Help the mods over there make a decision in the direction we take the blackout!
The comment section over there has been disappointing so far imo when most feedback that wasn’t demanding the sub to be reopened would be quickly downvoted to oblivion.
Personally I’d encourage other fellow hobbyists to look for alternatives instead of relying on one single platform, but a lot of them think the protest is dumb and just mere inconvenience to their daily internet consumption.
Yeah, but remember that a lot of them are people who only lurk in 99% of the time. So they are mad that they have less contents. They also don’t understand how much the changes will affect them. The bots will not work because of the API change, NSFW will not be allowed anymore, they will probably add even more ads than now, etc. The spirit of Reddit is dead, it will now be a hollow corpse. Some people will still be on it, but I want to create a living place here, with original content and a real sense of community
It’s kind of interesting most of the posts that were blasting the r/ffxiv mods had been given gold.
EDIT: And it looks like the community voted to reopen the subreddit. And they’re still blasting the mods because “HOW DARE YOU MILDLY INCONVENIENCE ME”. I swear, every time I think that my opinion of this (great, BTW) community can’t get any lower, someone finds a way to prove me wrong.
I logged in and left my comments for them today. First time I’ve touched reddit in a week. I’m very happy with Lemmy so far and haven’t even missed it tbh.
That’s why we’re all here, right?
It’s turned into politics where the majority have severe apathy to anything beyond the status quo. Change is scary to most people which is why so many people stay in shitty jobs for so many years.
The only way to change minds would be advertisement and propaganda, just like politics in the real world.
