edit: Emphasis on “but do nothing”. I suggest civil disobedience.

The picture of people “doing nothing in real life” is of protesters who are out doing something in real life.

Some people are of the mind that anything less than firebombing an oil refinery is not taking action. We need both people firebombing oil infrastructure, AND people protesting in the streets

I suggest they do not firebomb the people protesting.

So, firebombing oil refineries will reduce the supply of fossil fuels, driving up the price and profits for the oil companies

        GG!

Ah yes, the “you’ll hurt regular civilians, best not to do anything” approach

Didn’t say that. Better to do something that they won’t benefit from like reduce demand.

They’ll also be fully insured against sabotage so will get to replace old infrastructure with even more efficient ways to extract it.

The way to reduce demand would be to have walkable cities that prioritizes alternative modes of travel, and to dismantle the military industrial complex. Neither are very feasible in the amount of time we have, and EVs are not a solution to climate change.

I’m reminded of this passage in the Letter from Birmingham Jail:

First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action”; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man’s freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a “more convenient season.” Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

Yes, the meme does not literally have a picture of a group of people at their computers. The picture is metaphorical.

The top image is of the Occupy Wallstreet protests. Rich fucks on the balcony were there drinking champaign, taking pictures, and laughing.

Because they were at a wedding. People drink champagne at weddings.

I totally get where you’re trying to come from but that pic ain’t it. At least understand the context first otherwise people won’t take you seriously.
