I just updated the banner and the sidebar.

For the first time this year we decreased in number of ballots, meaning we have likely topped out at around 7 voters in our inaugural season, not bad not great

This is bummer, but to be expected I guess. Lemmy is losing engagement across the board (for many reasons, but I think Summer ending is the biggest) so as long as we keep our core group I don’t think we’re doing too badly. I like the little community we’ve built so far, and I’m sure it’ll grow (especially if other sites commit further missteps in the future).

I also think the AP voters are huffing Bama hopium. I think we got Alabama dead on (and not just because my poll had them at exactly 17).

And I just noticed Tennessee is still ranked, despite the heavy fall, while the team that beat them is in “others receiving votes”… hmmm…

I think our community is on a good track. Definitely a rough start as a large chunk of members jumped from community to community before we found one with active mods and members. I wouldn’t be surprised if we touched double digit voters late in the season as we continue to grow. We just need to make sure to be putting out road signs in .world, .ml, kbin and fanaticous, as well as any other large ingress points for the fediverse. I will say I’m pleased with the aggregate rankings from this community. Radical enough to not be a virtual replacement for ap or coaches, but based in reality enough that the rankings still feel accuracy.

As for the vols, I think this is a solid ranking and if we average my homer take and the full communities opinion the vols are hovering right around 17. Which is what my brain tells me is the place they should be in an unbiased take(but remember it’s my brain telling me that and I was capable of defending Jeremy Pruitt). I mean to be fair, we’ve looked iffy at best due to inconsistency. I firmly believe the pieces are there to be great, but to be great those pieces need to gel for the full hour. And tbf, I was one of those points that the other team scored. Precisely one. But one.

I don’t think I’m lacking for overall engagement, but TBF the poll hits me as homework because other than #25 shitpost votes, I wouldn’t want either to reduce its credibility or ape a major poll, so I mostly skip it. I love that it’s there; y’all keep it up, but make sure not to judge the community by the number of voters.

I’m more looking at it from a statistical standpoint. The higher we climb up to and into the 20s, the more meaningful this data becomes, and more tamper resistant. So additionally I can stop exercising any sort of filter over the data, and the meme ballots can roll in.

Is it bad that I want Bama to start winning again so we don’t get repeats of 2016 Notre Dame? That win haunts me…
