Just a quick heads up, that r/menopause (on Reddit) has been re-opened for the time being. In the coming days, it will be ‘restricted’ instead of being private.

As an internet user of more than 25 years, and a redditor of more than 12 years, I think it is important to continue fostering this community on Lemmy. It is currently the only publicly-owned and operated social media platform and has exploded in growth in just the last few weeks. For those of you missing the wiki here, we are just waiting for a software update that will allow for larger posts (the wiki is huge!)

Personally, I believe strongly in having a healthcare-focused community that is free from advertising and corporate and pharmaceutical interests. I sincerely hope I am not alone in this belief.

I know some of you may want to return to reddit now that r/menopause is re-opened, but I implore you to consider the road ahead.

More updates to come.

I have said my final goodbye to reddit. What a shame. I had the “secret” figured out in finding the actual content over the shitposts/shitreplies. I learned so much there on a multitude of topics. I hate how often I’m checking facebook now. I tried to get into Tik Tok but I allow myself to watch one video about “my neighbor from hell” or “watch this Karen lose her mind” and that’s all I get recommended for days, and then I start to feel like the world is a terrible place.

I’ll be sticking it out here.

My thoughts are that after July 1st, reddit will continue to degenerate, and become more like TikTok, etc. spamming us with ads and AI-generated content steering the narrative. In fact I think that’s what happening now as reddit is forcibly removing mods and replacing them.

This platform is only going to grow and the numbers of new subscribers to lemmy over the last week has been incredible! Redditors are moving here en masse, so it’s great to see.

If you haven’t yet, have an explore around lemmy, you can see a list of subs/instances that have moved over and are growing!
