I’m going to be doing posts discussing each of my pedals and how I like to use them. Hopefully this can help generate some discussion and content for the Community.

First up is the Phase 95.

I’ve always had a Phase 90 on my board because of EVH so when MXR announced this a few years ago it was a no brainer to get one. IMO this is the MXR phaser to purchase if you want that sound. The only thing I find annoying about it is the strobe light is very bright and I personally don’t have a need for the strobe.

I treat it more like a filter and therefore I run it before my drive pedals. I like that sound better than having it after them. I tend to favor very subtle, slow modulation as you’ll see with the rest of my board so it’s usually just above 9 o’clock. I also run it in the Script Phase 90 setting.

Usually I’ll kick this thing on for a backing rhythm part just to give it a bit more flavor on like a second verse or during the bridge. I need to experiment more with faster settings so if anyone has any tips that would be sweet.

EDIT: I’ve also been looking at 6 & 8 stage phasers to get that deeper swoosh going. Would love to hear some recommendations.

No recommendations here since I also used it in the same way as you do, before drives for some subtle movement (great for rhythm guitar). I ended up selling mine and have been using the Helix phaser that comes with the TC Plethora, but I’ve yet to find a toneprint that I like as much as the Phase 95.
