Target cited crime concerns when it announced that its small, 5-year-old stores in Ballard and the U District will close. Some shoppers and community members aren’t buying it.
Fred Meyer is pulling shit down here in Portland. They are asking to search everyone’s groceries on the way out of the store due to “high theft”. Quite frankly I don’t even care if there’s high theft of food; you’re sitting on piles of money, donate enough fucking food so people don’t have to steal it.
When they tried to search me I just told them “no” and kept walking. The security guard said I was to blame for the crime. I said “Don’t treat your customers like criminals.”
It’s an excuse to raise prices and blame it on the customers to dodge the bad PR. Or in Target’s case, to close stores and blame it on the customers, for the same reason.
I try very hard to remain nice to the workers as I smile and say “Nope” to the searchers, and walk away. Most of us have had shit jobs, so I know it’s not their fault.
To be fair, being nice to them as you refuse their exploiters’ orders is exactly what we should be doing. Being a dick to our fellow people burdened with the same bullshit from up the chain that we deal with just to eke out an existence… it only feeds the lies their manipulators tell them about “us”. Be firm and advocate for yourselves, but be sincere and gentle in doing so; most of them’re just trying to keep the lights on, like the rest of us. 🤗
Don’t get me wrong; some of them are mouthbreathing fuck-clowns that get off on doing their masters’ bidding, but you can generally clock those bootlickers a mile off. Just use multisyllabic phrasing to stun them for a few seconds and go on your way. They’re barely above nematodes, on a good day. 🤪
All due respect, but this isn’t enough. Boycott their stores. Go elsewhere. Say it loudly and in great numbers: “Fuck your lies! You are not entitled to our patronage!” ✊🏽🤬🔥

Yep. I would have been a little nicer if he hadn’t accused me of being to blame for whatever this imaginary crisis is.

This is wisdom, kind stranger. Thanks.

Well I did stop shopping there after the first time it happened. Don’t need that stress in my life.
