I don’t understand what people’s issue is with webp. I’ve literally never had an issue with it. Can someone explain? But I mostly use FOSS software, maybe that’s why?
isn’t it much more advanced than jpeg, less blocky, more quality for the same size etc? perhaps websites are just setting the quality way too low. You can do that with jpeg too, it’s not a webp issue.

google invented a new file format for media that no one asked for and just expected everyone to nod along and accept it. Yes most browsers will display it but apparently fuck backwards compatibility with any locally-run software that isn’t constantly upgraded (including editing software)

all my gallery apps or messengers handle them without issues from the beginning
Webp doesn’t work to use in documents, or view without a browser. I wish who ever played invented it the worst experience through life
WEBP’s lossy compression is horrendous.
