The ones the military uses are wired. Here you have a controller running on batteries and communicating through Bluetooth, which famously works perfectly in harsh conditions and under water.
I believe it’s the lost submarine that’s gone to the Titanic. The controller in the image is what’s used to control the submarine.

It IS a video game controller. They used a super cheap Logitech controller to control the submarine.
