Glen Helen Raptor Center - Yellow Springs, OH

Louie was born in 2005 in St. Louis and raised to be an animal ambassador. He looks to be a Western Barn Owl, which is native to Europe and some other parts of the world, but not the US, so that’s why I picked him, since you can’t just see one of his species anywhere here.

At first glance, he probably looks like most of the American Barn Owls we have, but the EBO has a lighter head color and little or no spots on the white underside.

Go visit him and his friends at Glen Helen. They seen to have a lot of nature activities and events. Last month they had a Whoo Cooks for You? Dinner event. They also have a photography class coming up, and Halloween festivities. Check their main site listed above or their Facebook for more event info.

Awesome! My goal is to make it so all of you have a chance to see some of these guys in person. Pictures are great and all, but raptors are wonderful creatures. Hawks are living missiles, owls are stealth bombers, and vultures are unsung heroes of the animals. Plus they are all adorable. Yes, even the vultures!

These rescues do great work, and it’s good these animals that can’t be released get a chance to educate and inspire.
