Everyone has their favorite tools to run games online, and sometimes these tools can be leveraged when you’re playing in person. What tools do you use?
The tools I use are:
Owlbear Rodeo: This started out as just a GM screen, but eventually evolved into an asset I share with my players. Explained in this video and here’s a file you can use to recreate it if you’re interested.
RPGSessions: I highly recommend this for anyone that’s playing Genesys (or SWRPG) whether in-person or online. It helps you easily manage character sheets and NPCs, roll dice and resolve said dice rolls, and there’s a Game Table function where you can set and track initiative, story points, adversaries, as well as pull dice pools straight from a selected character’s character sheet and get dice results immediately. RPGSessions streamlines my group’s play so much; I can’t say enough good things about it. Give it a try and consider supporting their Patreon; they deserve it! (I support them but am otherwise unaffiliated, promise).
GenesysRef: A great filterable reference for all things Genesys. I use it all the time to look up talents, gear, gear qualities, spells, and adversaries. There’s lots more too, like digital versions of the Setting Generator from the Expanded Player’s Guide and Gear Generator and Species Generator from Secrets of the Crucible.
I 100% play online (the last in-person game I played was a D&D one-shot for work friends in like 2018), but I’d wanna use these tools even if I was playing in person. Though I suppose it should be stated that I’ve never been into minis or constructing scenery/battlemaps.
