The U.S. State Department will be arranging chartered flights for American citizens who are currently in Israel, the White House announced Thursday.
The details on the flights are still being worked out, but those citizens will be flown out from Israel “to sites in Europe” starting Friday, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.
Ok, but why were they there? Granted it’s not a bad as North Korea but still.
It’s a pretty normal country for working and tourism
Is Tel Aviv not a tech/business hub? I imagine there’s lots of folks there for work
It’s nothing resembling North Korea in any way. You can, like, just fly there commercially from the US (for now).
Visiting family
There are an absolute fuckload of Israeli tech companies, and more than a few who are highly regarded in various specialized fields - particularly infosec
There’s lots with dual citizenship
2 or 3 of the most popular religions on earth have holy sites there, so that’s not an insignificant source of tourism.
