Social democracy is still a capitalist ideology though, not the best recommendation to someone who said hates capitalism.

Only insofar as capitalism is the midpoint between feudalism and socialism. Democratic socialists are for allowing the majority to set the pace for moving towards that ideal so as to minimise societal disruption through rapid change.
