The US intelligence community produced at least two assessments based in part on intelligence provided by Israel warning the Biden administration of an increased risk for Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the weeks ahead of Saturday’s seismic attack on southern Israel, according to sources familiar with the intelligence.
A state doesn’t care directly about a half dozen deaths, be them of citizens paying taxes to said state or to another state.A state cares first and foremost about continuing its existence, and secondarily about expanding its own power.
With that in mind:
It’s arguable if USA had anything to gain sharing the assessment with Israel. Probably more to lose, as the attacks make Israel rely further on USA (USA expands its power over Israel).
It’s also arguable if Israel had anything to gain by avoiding the attacks instead of retaliating them. The later made the state of Israel more sympathetic to the eyes of people and states elsewhere (soft power).
Part of the data was provided by israeli gov? I expect they -as most racists imperialists do- underestimated the tenacity of the locals they’ve spent decades antagonizing without retribution. Netanyahu even helped solidify Hamas’ power in Gaza.
Unfortunately, the victims are the civilians on both sides and the group with the power to stop anything (israel, the gov) balked at taking action early.
