The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released preliminary data that found 36 percent of people who could benefit from taking PrEP received a prescription in 2022.

Disparities continue to be observed, however. A significantly higher proportion of white people who could benefit from PrEP received a prescription when compared to people of color.

Another big issue is insurance companies lying, cheating, and manipulating people into believing they aren’t able to get on PrEP, or that they’re only eligible for Truvada, when in fact Descovy and Apretude must be covered at $0 out-of-pocket cost as well. Anything classified as grade A or B preventative must be covered as such.

However they’ll often try to block you with prior auths, or say you’re only eligible for Truvada generic, despite its side effects.

File complaints with the EBSA through the Department of Labor if you run into any difficulty getting these covered!
