I miss reddit every day. The niche communities were large enough there to have content.
I said I’d leave at the end of June if they went through with the API changes bc and I did. But of they reversed course today I’d absolutely go back instantly.
Nah, for me Reddit made me understand centralization in exchange for niche communities isn’t worth the trade offs that vom with it. I’d rather start new communities on Lemmy than going back to Reddit. I do miss r/rimjobsteve though
This whole reddit thing has made me want more FOSS in my life in general.
Not that I didn’t understand monopolies to begin with, but Reddit and Unity and Twitter and Google searches with 25 useless SEO AI-articles that explain nothing and ads and ads and ads and ads and ads; it’s just gotten exhausting.
Well the last six months of reddit being down certainly hasn’t solved the problem and the niche communities were much more lively back then too when everyone thought the place was going to keep growing.
I’m like… The only person posting in at least one of these niche comms. I honestly think the Fediverse is just going to burn out cause the only places that see traffic are news and meme communities but most of the memes are just Linux good windows bad memes (even though there’s a specific place for that) and the world news is mostly (mis)information about the Israeli/Palestine conflict with dubious levels of quality.
It’s not even a meme community, it’s just the generic Mass Effect community and it still has no content. I just post memes cause there’s no one around to converse with further than that.

The good news is now you get to help establish those communities you once loved
Exactly! Beautiful statement! 👍👍👍

Didnt knew there was a niche for Mass Effect memes
