NASA plans to use Voyager 2 as a testbed for the update. If all goes according to plan, it will also send the patch to Voyager 1, which is currently more than 15 billion miles away from Earth, thus making its data even more valuable than that of Voyager 2.
I wish NASA would launch a “Voyager relay” satellite to sit in between Earth and Voyager 1 & 2. Something to help us keep in touch the further they get away from us.
Doubt that will help, they are that far away that the inverse square law causes so much loss a relay in real space wouldn’t help.
Not in the budget…
