Just 4 hours after winning the nomination, a roll-call vote for support left him 24 votes shy of the speakership, and Trump posted on social media in opposition of Emmer’s bid. The results of the roll-call vote which ultimately caused Emmer to realize he had no path to 217 is below.
Candidate | Votes | Percent |
---|---|---|
Tom Emmer | 193 | 90.6% |
Jim Jordan | 15 | 7.0% |
Mike Johnson | 4 | 1.9% |
Byron Donalds | 1 | 0.5% |
Present | 5 | |
No Vote | 6 |
I hope on the next episode of “Who wants to be Speaker” that we have holdout votes for Tom adding to the fractured clusterfuck.
Also, instead of paper ballots, can we have the voting members give a rose to their pick? I feel like that would have better optics overall and make the weekly eliminations feel more dramatic and special.
