Jon Jones suffered an injury in training that will keep him sidelined for eight months and now Sergei Pavlovich will clash with Tom Aspinall to crown an interim heavyweight champion in the new UFC 295 co-main event.

This is a bummer, but Pavlovich vs Aspinall is a banger. I’d much rather see one of them vs. Jones than Stipe. I hope Stipe takes a winnable fight and rides off into the sunset.
I’m just tired of waiting on Jon Jones. At this point I wish he’d just retire for real and be done so we can all move on.
I’m with you on that Jones vs Stipe was not nearly as exciting as Jones vs Pavlovich/Aspinall. This IMO is great for the division, not so much for Jones.
Now I’m just left wondering who fares better vs Jones, Pavlovich or Aspinall?
I’d say Pavlovich probably. He has ape limbs and fuck you power.
Both present very unique challenges for Jones though. I’m just not sure if Aspinall’s wrestling is good for HW or good in general because there’s just not much competition in that field
Aspinall seems a bit more well rounded, but Pavlovich has that fuck you power. Tough call.
What I would give for either of them flatlining Jones in the 1st.
I think the chance is higher for Pavlovich to catch him early.
Aspinall might have better chances in a longer fight.
I would very much enjoy seeing Jones finished early in the fight. I agree with @harrywrecker, though. I doubt Jones would take either of those fights. UFC is already putting it out there that they are going to rebook Jones vs Stipe. Not sure why they are bothering with an interim fight if that’s the plan. Weird decision making.
I think they put the interim fight on because
a) they want another “title” fight to sell the PPV and
b) they might want to pressure Jones into hurrying up when he will come back.
Jones is not getting any younger, not to speak of Stipe.
And both seem perfectly willing to sit out until noone cares about them anymore.
I was already only looking forward to the fight for the slight chance that Stipe gets the upset, that chance gets slimmer every day.
And the UFC wants a “baddest man on the planet” to market.
