Hello all.

I read the new site TOS when it came out, and was worried that the rules against visual depictions of violence would affect the community here. The rules were worded in such a way that a strict reading would disallow a lot of 40k content. Coming from reddit, sometimes you never quite know how strictly or nonsensically rules might end up being enforced.

In case any members here read the TOS and were worried about the same thing, this is mainly a reassurance post. I had communication both by way of comments and private messages with admins to who provided assurance that 40k content here is not under any kind of danger.

As a P.S. I am, at the moment, not adding any rules to the community, mostly because everybody here has just been doing their hobby thing. As a pre-emptive precaution, I may soon add rules regarding tagging extra gory stuff as NSFW. I will chew on the best way to word and go about it, but it should not be anything that’s going to be disruptive to the normal posts here.

Edit: I have added a rule about tagging nudity and excessive gore/violence as NSFW. The admins did mention to be aware to tag content. The nudity should for the most part be self explanatory. The excessive violence/gore is more of a judgment call, and most 40k content doesn’t need it. I may occasionally pop in to ask some outlying posts to put a tag on themselves. This isn’t meant to be an offense to any community member, as so far the community here has acted entirely reasonably.

That’s it. Carry on.

No problem. Just a request that if any of the female minis, are say, topless in a WIP post, to edit the post and tag the post appropriately as NSFW to follow the nudity rules for TOS. NSFW marking is one thing that was mentioned to me and that I am going to formalize in the rule update.

Edit: formated my looks like a nub. Fixed.

It looks like an edit to the tags on PixelFed doesn’t Federate any change to the Lemmy post.

I would suggest that the tagging for pinups is as much a “judgement call” as the question of what is excessive gore/violence. We all understand that this isn’t an actual dude being tortured so shouldn’t we figure the same logic applies to understanding that a topless Repentia mini isn’t really nudity?

My tagging logic has been to mark things NSFW that are more likely to be shocking, like Kingdom Death body horror/nudity combos, or if there was a post where the main focus is the pinup, but not when it’s a partially finished WIP with a sea of other in progress minis.

It’s your community and your rules, but I think you had it more right by pointing out that it’s a matter of using good judgement.

Out of an abundance of caution, I’m going to ask future posts either be tagged, or the repentias be in pictures that are linked in the body of the post rather than the OP picture.

My reasoning is that if ever posts here start trending with visibility the the Lemmy.world front page, I want there to not be any issues and nudity is, unfortunately, something a little less greyzoned than violence for USA and I’d rather just head off anyone running to admins. If you put the repentias in the body of the post rather than the OP picture, then somebody casually scrolling the feed won’t happen upon them unannounced. I know they are way tamer than Kingdom Death stuff, but still.

It does also set a precedent and if the community grows it is easier to uphold the rules.

I seriously hope this isn’t too onerous, and I won’t have any issues with pictures inside of threads, either your own or any community ones. Basically I just want to keep pictures off the feed of anyone browsing the Lemmy.world “local” feed. Beyond that, anybody inside a thread is probably part of the community and I’m not worried.

I think we were both unaware of the edit feature not properly federating. I’m not going to take existing posts down or pester further about them. Let’s consider those grandfathered in.

Sounds good! I’ll also take this as challenge to paint well with that it could shock the local feed someday!
