Microsoft recently disbanded its AI Ethics team in March, while Google’s leading ethics researchers parted ways with the company in 2021 amidst a controversy.

From a business perspective, such teams often pose more of a risk than a benefit. By meticulously documenting inherent risks, they eliminate the option of plausible deniability, creating a trail of evidence that the business was aware of these risks yet chose to proceed regardless.
