I’m sorry about your state, friend. It really does feel too far gone for saving. Though I might say that about the entire US, even the state I live in, MA, has its own neoliberal brand of crony capitalism that is more obfuscated but functionally similar. They like to pretend they’re helping you but implement incredibly specific means-testing stipulations. To get MassHealth, for example, you have to make less than $30,000/year (or something crazy like that) in a state where the lowest rent you EVER find is $1200/month for a literal crack den.
