I mean, that $105 million came from the pockets of residents who probably couldn’t afford to give it up. But, I guess, “yay”?

You’re correct - it only deserves a lowercase yay. Before I tear into this I will say that bussing in seniors to a casino for a few hours in the afternoon is a fine outing for them and no real harm done but….The casinos are making most of their profits from problem gamblers. The “donations” to the host municipalities are an attempt to assuage the locals and make the municipality complicit imo. They can dress it up all they want but it’s lipstick on a pig. The Ontario government has stepped out of the spotlight on It by leasing to third parties like Hard Rock or Shoreline but they still get their vig from the take. I did plenty of work in OLG casinos as an outsourced contractor over a twenty year period and saw the addicts, and people who were supposed to be at work etc, and heard the horror stories. It’s advertised as fun but the next time you’re at a casino take a look around - other than (possibly) the staff I challenge you to find anyone smiling. Does that seem like fun?
