    Never understood how the life cycle of these things is supposed to work, when they need a host to develop and there’s nothing else left on the planet

      They were just the last survivors of a ruined ecosystem, no one said they were viable long term

          It really depends. Some organisms can hibernate or go dormant some other way, they may just be very resilient. Bacteria can turn into endospores, aren’t they akin to parasites?

            That’s true, maybe they were in a kind of stasis like tardigrades and would never have woken up if not for Khan’s disturbance
