I did not get along with my parents. Living at home meant never knowing if there was going to be a fight or other bullshit. Not applicable to everyone, but applicable to a lot of people.
Two. Dating. If I’m going to date someone and they live with their parents? Nah dude. I don’t want to deal with that. I want to date someone independent. Granted, I’m old now so it would be really unusual for someone to be living with parents now, but when I was younger? Yeah. That’s a big minus.
Three. My parents live in the suburbs. The suburbs suck. I moved to the city and it’s better in every way I care about. Walkable. Better food. More social and cultural things I care about (lie concerts). 24/7 public transit. More people. More subcultures. Also not applicable to everyone, but was in my case.
Depending on the situation it might mean having a house split in two with both units being mostly independent so it’s no worse than living in an apartment
Again, that’s totally subjective, I’ve always hated the city and would never move back to it and spend as little time in it as possible and I’ve been feeling like that since I was a teenager
All good reasons. The first two don’t apply in our situation, luckily. But you make good points. I just wish people didn’t feel the need to shame others for making this choice.
Well. Three reasons really come to mind.

That’s an issue for you, not for the majority
