I can’t think of anything else that intricate that was shot without a script or that the narrative was an entirely pre/post-production construction. But I am not the arbiter of film knowledge either.

Oh, not to that level. But thinking of stuff where I don’t even know how they write something so complicated and keep it straight. ‘Primer’, the TV show ‘Dark’, many of Nolan’s films to a lesser extent. But then even stuff like Doctor Strange, the crazy CGI they do is just mind blowing to me. Everything Everywhere comes to mind. I’m having trouble thinking of more, but I know there’s been some lately that I had that feeling. Can’t think of them off the top of my head at the moment.

          Upstream Color

          Thanks, will check this out.

Oh Under The Skin is one of my favorites. It’s a masterclass in uneasiness. I love so-called arthouse films. So much of what A24 is doing lately has been right up my alley. Everything Everywhere rose to my favorite of all time but I loved The Green Knight, Lamb, Men, all of Ari Asters movies. I’m really disappointed in the announcement they are moving to more mainstream, blockbuster toe fare.

Uh oh, disagreed on all 3 lol. Loved Enemy and Talk to me. Everything Everywhere hit me very personally, having an Asian immigrant mother. I can definitely see how people wouldn’t connect to it, but so much of it felt made for me.

honestly for as many great films as they’ve done, they’ve put out some crap, too

I don’t understand comments like this. Yes, they’re not perfect. Of course, not everything they do will be golden. No studio puts out 100% bangers all the time. I mean, no company at all does, with anything, nor anyone ever. Just strange, to me, to need to make a point of it, especially when talking about something subjective. Feels like being cynical for cynicism’s sake. I still think, at least for me, they have more hits than misses.
