Hello everyone!
For the last two weeks, I have been working on an Android app for Lemmy as a side project. It’s called Lemming and has now reached a state where I want to make it publicly available. The app is not yet available on the Play Store, so if you want to install it, you can download the APK file from the GitHub releases page.
Here are some key features that Lemming has right now:
- Support for multiple accounts
- Swipe to vote for posts and comments
- Navigate comments with the volume buttons
- Long press on a comment to collapse it
- Write posts and comments with a text editor that supports text styling and a preview
- Long press on post image thumbnail to see the full image
- User interface is optimized for phones, tablets, and foldables

What’s next?
I plan to release a beta version of Lemming on Google Play next week, to make installing and updating the app easier.
Then I will focus on adding missing features like supporting links, displaying user profiles, personal messages, search and community sidebars. I also want to add customization options and improve the accessibility of the app. Lot’s to do :)
Of course all of this depends on the feedback I get from the community and what is most important to the users. So don’t hesitate to give feedback and tell me what features you would like to see next!
I’ve just installed and used it for a few minutes and it’s an excellent start. Scrolling is smooth and replies work.
It’s basic at the moment but it looks like you have a great foundation.
I’m sure the green UI was probably something you quickly threw together for now, but hopefully in future you’ll be able to change that and have it support material you. It’s at least have theme options like light, green, dark etc. For me it’s a bit too much green.
But that’s a niggle. More important is to be able to view our own profiles, see replies/messages and search the tinkering l timeline, posts and communities.
After that add the ability to post to a specific community right from the draft screen.
But that’s alot of work I’m sure. I’m no developer but hopefully some other Devs will hop on board to help.
I think there is a rush on now of Devs making Lemmy and KBin apps. I’m also using an app on GitHub called Liftoff. It’s a bit further down the line than yours but it opens all links in its internal browser with no way to send them to an external browser, which is real frustrating. So I’m inclined to use your app instead for now because at least it lets me open links in an external browser.
I’ll just check Lemmy on the web from time to time to check for replies.

Thank you for the detailed feedback. Material You dynamic theming is supported in the latest release that is now on GitHub. Profiles, messages and search are some of the features that I want to add next.
