I got an email about the new TV interface for Spotify, it said it was for TVs, streamers, consoles, etc.

I open Spotify on the ATV and it’s the same shit it’s been for years.

They never implemented lyrics either.

I like it too much to move away, but this kinda pisses me off.

Spotify is awful with their software.

Don’t expect anything to get better, they’ve been ignoring simple requests on their forum for years.

It works well enough for me, and the availability of their API is a huge deal for me, I use it all the time.

But yeah, there’s still much to be desired.

What do you mean about the API? What do you do with it?

          https://www.reddit.com/r/spotify/wiki/apps/

This list of apps maybe gives an idea.

Another use is, since I don’t always appreciate the way Spotify shuffle works, I just use a playlist randomizer. I’m gonna modify this one I found so that it re-randomizes every day automatically.

When I was on android I made a custom Spotify overlay that gave me a couple of extra buttons so I could 1-click add songs to whichever playlists I set the buttons to.

It’s a robust api… Oh, I made a tool that fakes a Spotify connect endpoint, and when I connect to it it automatically turns on my Apple TV, opens the Spotify app, and then transitions the Spotify connect session to the Apple TV. Solving the issue of not being able to Spotify connect to the Apple TV when it’s off or in other apps.

Cool, I knew things could interact with the music database and playlists. I didn’t realize it was useful for small projects like what you are doing.
