Under the proposed standards, companies would have to pay workers 120 per cent of the province’s minimum wage, not including tips, from the time they accept a ride-hailing or delivery assignment through its completion.
The rate is higher than B.C.’s minimum wage – currently set at $16.75 – because it would not apply to the time spent waiting between assignments, according to the Ministry of Labour.
While they weren’t foaming-at-the-mouth baby-eaters or anything, but some highlights include - The long, drawn out fight with the BC Teachers Federation that screwed over kids, and that the BC Liberals lost in court; the ‘we totally aren’t going to do it, oops’ of the HST; and the coup-de-grace, the cost of housing - up 130% during their reign; and to add to the previous one, during that same time, real B.C. earnings declined.
So housing got this bad, and schooling - they closed 200 schools during their reign! It’s crazy to look back on.
Haha, as to my name, it’s only a personal backstory. TSG was the first gaming ‘clan’ I was in as a teenager, and Asmodeus was mentioned in the shareware version of Quake. (The logo is from Marathon, another game from the 90’s. Damn, that makes me feel old…)
“Totally not doing it oops the HST”, which when they rolled it back:
Also, while stuff like “Fast Ferries” was dumb AF, things like the sale of provincial railways should have damn well been criminal.
I wasn’t old enough to be paying attention at the time, but in hindsight it really looks like the Liberals sold off the fast cats at such a low price to make them look like even more of a failure than they were.
Wow, that was a depressing walk down memory lane. (Except for the shareware games. God I miss those weird 1 level demos. Almost bought Jazz Jackrabbit the other month just to see what the other levels were actually like.)
I think watching American politics, my standards of poor government have dropped significantly. Good to be reminded.
Also, thanks for sharing the name backstory. I’m relieved I don’t have to surrender too much of my nerd cred.
No worries, haha, like I said it’s only really a story to me.
Thanks for the chat, and reminding me of Jazz Jackrabbit (it’s on Gog.com!)
