The Leatherman nylon sheath with pockets is absolutely perfect for my needs, but I can’t stand that you have to feed a belt through it.

Has anyone found a way to convert the belt loop to a clip?

Nope, because I need it to be a clip that can easily slip on/off, including when I’m beltless.

The Molle version just makes it easier to loop around a belt, but I don’t want it looped to a belt at all.

How about the MOLLE version of the pouch, with something similar to this secured to the MOLLE. You might need to take a little bit of gutted 550 or something to ensure the clip doesn’t slide loose of the pouch. That style of clip should clip straight to pants.

          We’re getting close!

I’m also just exploring some ready made pouches with belt clips. I expect my Surge to last the rest of my life, so I’m OK with investing in a high quality pouch if that’ll get me closer to my ideal.

Actually wait I just realized that I own some Gerber made pouches. The difference is that the Gerber just have MOLLE ladders in them but don’t have the vertical strap like the Leatherman pouches do. If you do go the route of a plastic clip added to MOLLE, Gerber would be the better option since there is no vertical strap to interfere.

I can attest they have hefty construction, though are slight bit roomy. They can easily accommodate an EOD-MUTT, and anything smaller will have a slight bit of wiggle.

              Thanks for your suggestions!

I think I found a DIY route. Since I really like the Leatherman sheath (literally fits everything I need PERFECTLY), I just ordered some Chicago screws and metal belt clips. If I screw the belt clip using all the layers of the back of the sheath, it should be stiff and strong enough to work.

The reason I’ve been searching is that I have a knockoff Leatherman from Amazon, which came with a pretty good sheath, and that one has an excellent belt clip. And you know what they say about “what’s the best tool to have? The one you’re carrying!”. I’d rather be carrying my Leatherman :)

I’ll update this thread once I get the screws.

Good to hear. I know the frustration of trying to find just a particular thing, and being sure it must exist.

LOL. This is exactly it. I know there’s as solution, but whether I don’t know what it’s called or I’m not looking in the right place, who knows?

But this search wasn’t without its positives. I did find a new company that I’ll probably end up using if this DIY solution fails: https://skinthsolutions.com/
